Viola odorata - commonly known as the wood violet - is a species in the family Violaceae native to Europe and Asia, and widely introduced to North America and Australia. It is a hardy herbaceous flowering perennial, growing to a height of 4 to 6 inches, with either dark violet or white, and leaves and flowers are all in a basal rosette. It is usually found near the edges of forests or in clearings, and also a common wild plant in shaded lawns or elsewhere in gardens.
